Johnny redshirted Pickens and Dale Carter on the team that started 0-6. I think. You are correct except it was Pickens and Chuck Webb. That team was 1988. Dale Carter played in 89 and 90 I think and he came from Jr College. If Pickens and Webb had not been redshirted in 88, maybe they don't go 0-6. Who knows. That would have never happened today.

Right. Should have remembered that Carter was a JUCO. He's in my top 2 or 3 favorite UT players ever.

He is also one of my favorites. Never forget that kickoff return for a TD to start the second half deluge of scoring against Spurrier and his Gaytors.

That was when getting Florida at home seemed like a lock. Since Manning's frosh year it's been a lock loss whether it was played in Knoxville or on the moon.

Unless there is a difference maker at QB, they've got plenty. Next year it will be one senior, 2 sophomores, and one red-shirt freshman. They can skip a year if they all come back.

Johnny redshirted Pickens and Dale Carter on the team that started 0-6. I think. That was a completely different day. The NFL didn't take early outs in that era so redshirting a player wasn't a risk as it is now. Still can't believe that those two were redshirted. Not a smart move.

Cowboy, Dale Carter played here in 90 and 91. BUT, Chuck Webb actually left after his Soph season, because the NFL had the rule of being out of high school 3 years. Pickens at least stuck around 1 more. After WEbb left though, and the scholarships got cut, for each team, the days of automatically redshirting, was over. Now, all the scholarships count against you, and the guys leave after 3, there is not much use to redshirt too many.

Both Webb and Pickens were looking to get out of here at the first possible moment. Neither were interested in actually going to school or getting a degree. And those were the days before the NCAA rules on having to make progress towards a degree. A lot of athletes just took whatever classes they could pass and stay eligible to play. There would be student/athletes spend 4 years at UT (and other schools) and not even have half of the required classes they needed to earn a degree.

I don't think that they need to renigg on any offers yet, but if they get a few more wanting to come here they'll have to make some adjustments. If they enroll in January do they count against 2013 instead of 2014? Somebody will probably not get admitted, somebody could get arrested, some might gray shirt. Doubt that any of the Legacy Boys will be asked to give back their offers. BTW, the #2 class coupled with the "Legacies" are what gives me hope. Bates, Wharton, Creamer... they have more invested than a typical recruit that doesn't care where they play as long as they play. BY the time those guys are seniors I expect that the program will be clearly relevant again. "Brick by Brick". "Legacies". "Git er done". This is the US Bureau of Political Correctness. You, one thunder good-oil, are hereby on notice as an entity of particular interest to us based upon your employment in a casual manner of the term "renigg". As such it falls into the categories of "offnig", "deletenig", "repressnigg", and many others. Henceforthwith know that we are aware of you, and we are on alert as to your apparent tendencies toward favoring the Incorrect. Ever Vigilant, your BPC

I remember, when Georgetown was one of the only teams with an all black roster. Somebody said "What do you call it, when John Thompson substitutes players in"?

The guy is being asked to take slaw and compete with Top 10 teams.
We are so conditioned to just bash the coach when we are pissed off on Sunday morning.

Regarding the Webb redshirt in 88, nobody knew cobb was going to miss games in the middle of the season due to suspension. And at 4 games in why blow webbs RS. Now Pickens is another story

When Georgetown first became relevant in basketball, I thought that it was a negro college. I wonder if people are now confusing TN and TN State.
