Head coaches recruit, talk to the media, and hire assistants. Butch's greatest DC in the country is rightfully taking some heat right now. Johnny wouldn't waste any time blowing them out of here. Heard Basilio pimping for Ron Zook yesterday.

I think a new defensive coordinator would be a good thing. Not sure about this Janzek or however you spell it.

I think we hired the right guy.
There are intangibles pointing in that direction.
The players and fans have bought in as a group and feeding off eachother. It feels like Tennessee over there in the stadium again. Everybody on the same page.
The former players are back in the fold, which can't be a bad thing.
And I know some ppl are tired of hearing about recruiting, but if you aren't happy with the 2nd ranked class, Idk what to tell you. We haven't crooted like this since Heavy was here.

The stupid slogans and symbols are just part of it. Johnny Majors made them get off of cloud nine. Dooley had some ceramic, orange pointer dog he found in Europe. Fulmer had a Hot Now neon sign in his office.

Yep. All coaches talk talk talk and have all kinds of slogans. Just part of it.

55 points & 444 rushing yards at Neyland against the Barn (who oh btw has a 1st year coach as well). <== tangible stuff

He wasn't coaching there for about a year. Recruited most of the team to fit his system. Tangible stuff here.

2nd ranked class. Second. With every possible swing recruit so far going our way. Chok full of legacy players.
Yet, SECOND. Behind who. Do I really have to say it? So we are barely treading water against them and need to repeat this success 3 more years just to be on par with them.
Look, the biggest problem is not Butch Jones, it's Nick Saban. Somehow or another he needs to get the hell out of this league. Also, we need Florida to keep Muschump another 10 years. But of course Florida cares more about winning than UT does and you wait, they will fire his ass THIS year.
I haven't been to a game in a few years so I can't speak to whether it "feels" like Neyland again. I can however see on TV with thousands of empty seats it sure doesn't LOOK like Neyland again.
Bet that third quarter with the few who did show up flocking out of there like the place was on fire looked nest level to recruits.

You make good points, Cowboy, but the reality is that until we pass the middle and upper middle of the pack in the SEC in terms of talent, Alabama really doesn't matter to us. They are going to recruit well - period. We need to pass the South Carolinas/Georgias/aTms before we can even think about getting to Alabama level.
It's a cliche, but as low as the talent level is in the program right now, baby steps are the reality, and not giant leaps.

GA needs to keep their coach as well. His best years are behind him.

We have a class this year, with about 30 commits.
He can promise immediate playing time now.
Fulmer had a top 5 class the year before a losing season.
I'm not falling for the highly rated class, ever again.
HOWEVER, guys, I am just tired of the coach worship by some. I just want to enjoy the team, week to week, without having to hear how great we are going to be down the road.
One good recruiting class is nothing to tell me he is going to get it done. The players he has, have either not gotten better, or have regressed.
Next year, with 30 freshmen on the roster, is he going to be able to go in, and tell a kid "You will get to play immediately"?
I heard yesterday, he is going to have to tell some of the kids, already committed, they will have to find elsewhere to go.
I am just not worrying about the coach right now. I just fired up, that for the first time in a month, we will not lose on Saturday.

And I understand all that, Gramps. Really. But I see Malzahn being instantly competitive as a first year coach. He appears to me to be head and shoulders above Butch by any measureable.
And definitely Richt staying at GA is a help.
