Some of the freshmen looked pretty good tonight versus Slick Rock. Fulkerson can run the court. Bone and Parker are the best point guards that TN has had for a while. Bowden reminds me a little of of McRae. I was expecting more from Turner, but I think he worked at PG last year and appears to have switched to off guard. He's behind Phillips and Mostella at the 2. Grant Williams will be good. Jalen Johnson is probably needing to redshirt.
13 scholarships: 2 seniors, Hubbs and newcomer Lew Evans 1 Junior - Mostella 3 sophomores: Phillip, Schofield, Alexander 6 new freshmen (Johnson, Bowden, Parker, Bone, Fulkerson, Williams) and 1 RS freshman Turner. 3x walk ons, two coming back (Campbell and Woodson) and a new one that can shoot.
No go to guy down low. They'll be small and push the tempo.

Know what??
We may have some fun watching this bunch of unheralded unknowns.
They played with focus and purpose against an overmatched opponent in a bs exhibition game.
Skrew Basilio and his over the top criticism of Barnses recruiting.

10 of 13 scholarship players are freshmen and sophomores. Barnes only has 3 scholarships opening up in the next two recruiting cycles. Spending his time working with the players he has now is more portant than anything else he could be doing. Basilio needs to STFU and get off of his moronic anti-CRB campaign.

Also agree with your Basilio bball barnes sentiments. TB needs to step off on this. Can we not just watch things play off and develop??

And sadly you aptly noticed the absence of a big down low when you need em.

Three freshmen will be competing for the minutes at the point guard. That is a selling point to getting a quality big man or two. These aren't score first PGs. They want to create open looks for teammates. TN is also developing quality wings (Bowden/Phillips/Turner). The foundation is being built IMO. Looks like a really good opportunity for Stokes. But if he goes somewhere else, somebody in the 2018 class will see it and sign next year.

Bone has a stress fracture... might be back by the start of conference play. I'm looking forward to Bone at the point and Kwe Parker at an off-guard. Turner seems more comfortable at an off guard as well.
J. Johnson is expected to redshirt. The new walk-on will redshirt.
Turner is playing better.
Alexander is making a balanced contribution. Rebounding is getting better. Not looking bad scoring the ball. Looks real good swatting shots and running the court.
Nice to see a local kid (from Carter) getting minutes. Hopefully Bowden's shots start dropping more frequently.
Phillips might end up as a major factor. Still a little inconsistent.
Hubbs and Mostella are showing flashes on offense.
Williams is steady, but gets burned with his defense regularly. That's what freshmen do. Fulkerson is surprising a lot of people that thought he was just going to be a tallish, un athletic white boy.
Lew Evans has disappeared in games. Don't know if he's making a contribution as a senior leader in practice and a team chemistry type. He did piss off Barnes by not playing on the perimeter on O as Barnes wanted. Still trying to figure that out... maybe Barnes wanted the biggest defender to follow him away from the paint. Long season... maybe he'll contribute in January/February. He does seem to be a bit of a guy that would get his 5 fouls worth with a good elbow or push in the back here and there.
Schofield will still be serving his suspension versus GA Tech tomorrow. I'm really surprised that he did something to get in trouble... military kid. His dad probably is kicking his ass more than Barnes.
Georgia Tech is not on TV. It's internet only.

I can't figure out the deal with Evans. If you're going to bring in a 5th year senior, he'd better be playing or you just wasted a roster spot.

Taking a one and done grad transfer balances out the classes a little. Could have grabbed a JUCO instead, but if they weren't to play then the scholarship is tied up for more than a year.

This team is only a couple of really good players from being a very good team. Barnes has a good core of players, just need some difference makers.

This team is only a couple of really good players from being a very good team. Barnes has a good core of players, just need some difference makers. I've pretty much been thinking the same way all off season. Barnes only has 3 scholarships available for the next two years (now 2 since Zach Kent has accepted an offer). His time is best spent coaching up the 10 freshman and sophomores that he has right now (none of which were highly rated 4/5 stars) and get the solid base established. Then the table is set for landing a couple of very good, high level recruits to add to the mix. When the 10 underclassmen are juniors and seniors TN will have a very experienced, solid group that are likely to be a tight, team first group that can win a lot of games.
