Also, Barnes can retire and hand off a program on solid footing to a guy like Will Wade. Right now Barnes is cleaning up the mess left in the wake of Pearl/Martin/Tyndall (which would be a very difficult challenge for a young, inexperienced coach) while Wade is getting his OJT at VCU versus mid-major and lesser competition. In a couple if years the table will be set for WW (or whoever) to take over and for Barnes to gracefully step aside and be an ambassador for TN basketball in his retirement. I'm sick of the carnage left in the wake of fired and butt hurt quitter TN basketball coaches and would love to see the above scenario play out for a refreshing change in the way things happen here.

My guess is Barnes is trying to find a couple of really good players that would be willing to stick around for 2-3 years instead of the one-and-done players. Don't know how you find those.

The most likely best finish in 2016-17 and probably 2017-18 is an NIT bid. Once TN is a strong candidate to make the NCAAT, it will be much easier to convince the higher rated recruits to sign. TN should be in pretty good shape two years from now if the short attention span fan base can be patient.

Thunder sheeping it up for a coach. LOL. What a surprise! Love me some Barnesy. After the liar/con man clown that Pearl was, the race baiting butt-hurt Cuonzo, and the fraud that Tyndall turned out to be. I'm feeling real good about CRB. Even minus the big splash signee so far. He's said that he's getting away from his Texas model of highly rated recruits that always left early for the NBA.

I wasn't big on the Barnes hire, and I would still like to see him hit the recruting trail a little harder, but I have been impressed with the effort he gets out of his players. The seem to want to play for him, unlike the football team and Botch.
And Pearl is something else that Thunder and I agree on - he is nothing more than a snake oil salesman.

Barnes only has one scholarship to award in each of the next two cycles. IMO it's fine that he's dedicating most of his time and resources working with the guys he already has. It's not like he's shut down recruiting... TN is making plenty of offers to highly ranked players. He only needs one. He almost had the 7' Turk Yurtseven this year. Yurtseven went to NC State so plan B was a graduate transfer... thus we have Lew Evans. Better to use that 2016 spot for him than to let it go unused. I trust Barnes more than his critics that he knows what he's doing. The next big class is still over two years out when Alexander, Phillips, and Schofield have used up their eligibility.

We went to Johnson City to see UT take on ETSU. I've been going to UT games regularly for almost 25 years. This was my first road game. While they have Freedom Hall remodeled rather nicely, certainly makes you appreciate TBA. Fun game, great crowd, and fun time had by this UT fan.

I briefly considered going. If I'd a known that WVLT would fail to get the feed and put it on their MyVLT channel, pretty good chance I'd a gone.
My Charter cable was out all day last Sunday... so I didn't get the Gonzaga game on my DVR. Then I recorded a replay and the freaking SECNW had ****ed up audio.
So in less than a week... fail by Charter, fail by WVLT, fail by the SECNW. A-holes. They need to hire real engineers that know wtf they are doing instead of the low budget, inexperienced, recent graduate (most likely) Dolts that they're hiring these days. Plenty of money available to hire a competent work force if the GMs, VPs, sales managers, etc. weren't being disproportionately compensated. That's the f***ed up world we're living in.
