It's easier to build a team in basketball than it is in college. But college basketball is about coaching and good guard play. Look at what Pearl did with Buzz's players.

he gets a d or d minus for the 1st third of the season. He still gets a chance to raise his gpa in the next few months.

Rick Byrd could make a Regional Final with this exact roster.
Tom Izzo could make a FinalFour with a break here and there.
Switching sports but the sentiment remains--my thoughts on Butch are well known but goodgodalmighty has any college program ever needed a vaunted Freshman class to come through?

He is nearly as bad as Wade. Considering the talent I bet one who knows baketball (not JM) could do a film study and prove Fartin is worse. It was obvious halfway thru season one as I pointed out repeatedly but was mostly met with jeers from the JMSheep type. Horrible coach. Possibly the worst. Cowboy was right again! Wade's teams at least had some epic offensive games with LSU and Arkansas that were fun to watch. That 61 point KY debacle helped cancel those out though. One of Wades teams with a bunch of losses went to the finals of the SEC tourney one year.

You always hear a team will play like it practices. It is obvious this coach/team puts very little effort in practice. Their shooting is poor, no one seems to know what the hell to do on offense and defense is nothing special at all. Just no effort at game time. No improvement in any area over the 3 years. He has recruited a few name players, but who of them them can play? He has recruited far more busts than anyone able to give quality minutes. It has been time for a change for a while. Only concern being who this team of Cheek/Hart screw-ups would hire.

This came up on TB's show today, 2nd hour I'm pretty sure and beyond that I don't know to whom the attribution ought to go - But it's been rattling around in what brain I've been given -
Does Counzo want to be fired? Is that what this is - He has realized he is in over his head, and the clock is winding down. He kinda, no he Knows, he hasn't a clue as to what to do, and even if he had a clue he doesn't have time to implement.
What is the structure of his buyout? Will he cash out better if he is fired before end of season?
What think you all?

How many years are left?
I mean, ok, 780 grand per, but more to the point - What is that gonna cost if the man is blown out tomorrow, vs. What it is gonna cost if he gets cut loose at season's end?
Just trying to put a frame on this thing.

Scenario 1: Say he gets blown out today. Per the contract what is the man owed?
Scenario 2: He gets blowed out at season's end.
Monetarily, is there a difference?
I want to say I heard K.Hathfield saying something to the effect that "after April the buyout amount goes way down" but I'm at a loss as to understanding the significance of that.

If he takes another job before April 2014 he would owe UT $2.6 million.
He gets 60% of what's in the contract if he gets fired. Unless he has an extension, his contract runs through March 2016.

It's not rocket science. He's in year 3 of 5. If he's fired after this year he'll get 2X$780K or $1.56 million. Most likely since he is in to the year this year he would get his entire contracted amount of $1.3 million were he fired in mid season, or at least he would if his lawyer knows what he is doing.
