Just does not register as significant with me.

People are going too far out of their way to excuse this though. Yes, kids drink and yes I sure as hell am not throwing stones. But few things are as epidemic as college binge drinking. Not saying he was but it can move to that area quickly. What if he ends up with a DUI down the road? Kills someone? And really, Im not comfortable with players drinking in season. Its not optimal for your body in any amounts.
But he need nothing happen to him aside from maybe some early morning stadium steps. There is middle ground here. People acting like he ought to lose his scholly (opposing teams fans) are no worse than the sheep constantly Tweeting this doesnt matter at all for fear it might hurt their team.

Read on another board, he loaned his car to a buddy. Buddy was passed out in the car in a UT parking garage. UT police run plates, get Hurd's dorm address. Went to dorm, saw open alcohol in Hurd's room, cited Hurd
This was on the internet... I vote not guilty your honor.

now if he caught smoking a doobie we might have a problem but a drinking a cold one. How in the 2 hales would a cop give him a ticket for drinking a cold beer.

The funny thing is, I was reading about it, beside Gus Manning, in Long's Drugstore eating breakfast. I was thinking "no telling how many times Gus had to take care of that kind of stuff, that was never known".
These days, there is no way to keep ANYTHING secret. This kind of thing has always happened, and it is not a new thing to the world. It was always handled by a coach, back in the day, and it should be handled by the coach these days.

Id kick him off the team if he didnt have some fun and blow off steam now and then. live it up. college is the best times. Id do it all over again.
He doesnt strike me as the out of control type or one bit of a problem, so I give him a pass ( after I make him run a shit ton of inclines)
Im more surprised they are as well behaved as they are. things could be a whole shit ton worse. everywhere.

We aren't back in the day. A cover up (a la Tallahassee) doesn't work anymore. Handling things privately or off the books is not an option. Minor infractions should be dealt with like the minor infractions they are: not a life ruining experience but certainly not laughed off with "boys will be boys" That's how I'd view it if I was a leader at Tennessee or any school. Consistency. Same deal no matter whether it is an athlete or not. On a more personal level as someone who has politicked my way out of some scrapes early in life a little wake up call sooner vs. later might have been good for me. I doubt I'm alone in that

Handled by the coach isn't the same thing as a cover up (outside of the Florida pan handle).
And you're wrong Tebow. This board is near 100% choir boys. Except for OD of course.

Once a police report/campus incident report is filed it can't (shouldn't) be handled by a coach. I don't get your comment about the choir boys on this bored. I wasn't implying you all were leaders at tennessee...

In Hurd's case I think that the coach just added additional punishment. There are hundreds of open container in dorm room violations issued every semester. What Hurd did wasn't even as bad as a speeding ticket.
Hurd will have his day in municipal court in January. The accused rapists too. CBJ hasn't done anything that I'm aware of that I disagree with so far. Fulmer and Majors put a lot of effort into sweeping these things under the rug (remember Fulmer's meeting at Shoney's after the retarded girl was violated?).
Magnum made the point that nowadays this stuff is outed a lot easier now than back in the day and Gus probably had to make a bunch of these things go away. Spot on. Jimbo is a dipchit for trying the same thing now.
Speaking of Gus Manning... I'd love to own that 1962 Cushman that he zips around campus in whenever they take it away from him. I wonder what will happen to it.

How in the 2 hales would a cop give him a ticket for drinking a cold beer. Because he is under 21 and got caught with and admitted to drinking a cold beer. That is a misdemeanor violation which can result in either being handcuffed and taken to jail or ticketed, at the law enforcement officer's discretion. Obviously a lot of underage individuals drink, but Hurd just happened to get caught doing it as part of an investigation in to an individual passed out drunk driving a vehicle that reportedly belonged to Hurd. And chances are really good that if alcohol and a passed out drunk were found in that car that somebody who had been drinking was driving that car, and drunk driving is something that we all should be concerned with. It's hard to find fault with the officer doing his job here.
