Really looking forward to 18-19 season.
Concerned about drop off going forward with questionable recruiting so far.

Fulkerson, Johnson, Kent, Walker, Pons, and Burns are underclassmen and Gaines/Pember are solid. We're going to be fine going forward. We're still in the running for a couple of very good recruits with the open spot. We need a guard. We're in good shape in the paint and have several wings with a lot of upside (Johnson, Pons, Gaines). Don't sell Pember short because he's a skinny, white kid. He has skills. Every player on the roster can handle the ball very well, so even minus a highly skilled PG, we'll be fine. Barnes wasn't necessarily joking when he said that he'd like to have 5x 6'7" guys on the floor that could switch on every screen.

Good insight. We do still need a point guard, and Barnes and staff have labeled this a priority, with no results to date. JBone and LTurner will probably get us through this season adequately though. But the lack of recruiting success is worrisome. To me anyway.

Mark Griffin has been an AAU coach for Keon, but he isn't pushing him to pick TN.

Ditto wolf. But kudos to the rest of those guys for picking up the slack while he's been out. Still, we gonna need him for league play, and to make the most of the potential for this season.

It's likely better in the long run to let Lemonte' rest his shoulder. Jalen Johnson gets valuable experience. JJ could be another 3-point threat which helps give Grant, Kyle, Fulk, and Admiral room to operate in the painted area. It's great that Bowden is gaining some consistency on the perimeter. Plus Admiral is looking good from the outside. We need outside scoring to have a chance getting to the EE and FF... probably even the 2nd weekend of the NCAAT.
Great shot at going into conference play with just one loss plus there's still lots of room for improvement. Like the zone defense. Could have run Memphis out of FedEx if Memphis hadn't grabbed do many offensive rebounds and slipped in behind the 2-3 so often. Walker and Fulkerson looked pretty bad in that zone... although they might have been covering for other player's break downs and were closest to the ultimate scorer. The first unit probably doesn't get much practice in the zone let alone the reserves.

I heard a theory on Basilio that Barnes used the zone in response to the way Penny was trying to play the game. It kept our guys from getting caught up in the mugfest. Maybe something to that.
