It's still too early to tell. Kwe Parker was out which meant that Turner played a lot of PG. Chatty had most of their veteran team back from a 29-6 NCAAT team. Huge game for Chatty to beat big brother (even though 5 of the 7 freshmen played a lot of minutes). TN pulled to within 6 late, but started missing a lot of free throws and couldn't pull even. 1 for 14 three point shooting. TN lead for about half of the first half.
Alexander took a step forward. Chatty was pretty big in the paint and KA had a good game. Turner, Hubbs, Mostella, and Schofield didn't play well. Phillips was okay... not bad, not great.
TN needs a convincing win over Appy on Tuesday and needs to go at least 1-2 in Hawaii. The SEC is pretty weak, so a .500 record or better and the NIT are reachable goals.
It's critical that Parker's injury isn't bad. Having Bone at the off guard while Parker runs the point could be an explosive offensive weapon.
I was expecting Evans to play a lot of minutes early in the season. He was only in for about a minute.
If Bowden's defense progresses he could be the perimeter sharp shooter that TN needs.
Jalen Johnson did not play. I predicted before the season began that he'd redshirt. Unless Parker is out for a long time, I doubt that he (Kwe) redshirts. The other 4 new freshmen played and burned their redshirts (Bone, Fulkerson, Bowden, Williams).
This team needs to push the tempo to gain an advantage. Chattanooga pressed full court to disrupt RN's freshmen PGs and prevent a fast pace.

The rule changes this year are favorable for TN. More emphasis on traveling and proper dribbling. Less pushing allowed in the paint. Defenders are allowed to use an arm bar in an offensive players back. Defenders being given vertical space without called for fouls. Defenders inside of the semi-circle under the basket are allowed to jump vertically to defend without being charged with a foul (they will be called for fouling if they do not jump while defending that area).

I only got to see the second half. Where was Schofield and Mostella?

And Evans. Mostella and Schofield didn't perform and were benched. Evans posted up when Barnes told him not to. I assume that Barnes wanted to draw the bigger Chattanooga defenders away from the basket. Barnes said that Schofield shot a 3-pointer after he was told not to. Mostella was probably slacking on defense. Without looking at the box score, I think that Mostella played the most minutes.

Schofield jacking long 3's just doesn't work for me.
Honestly, the energy was so low that I bailed out well before the end of the first half. Unwatchable for me.
The female commentator was awful. Was like they had two color commentator/analysts and nobody doing play by play. Way much dead air. If that's the way you want to broadcast it, then turn up the sound feeds from on court and arena.

The court side reporter had a mighty fine booty.

Schofield jacking long 3's just doesn't work for me. Schofield doesn't need to be jacking up 3's. But Turner kept jacking them up too and didn't come close to making one.
