Agree with Relic - they can call it whatever they damned well please, but to everybody in North Knox County and beyond, it's the damned Duck Pond.
Like the old saying goes, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

Fountain Citians know it as Fountain City Lake but the rest of Knoxville calls it the duck pond. What's that thing at Chilhowee Park called?

Fountain City Lake nearly fixed ■ Public can get a look at wetland plans By Travis Dorman travis.dorman@knoxnews.com 865-342-6315 An engineering firm hired by the city of Knoxville will present its design later this month for the new wetland area at Fountain City Lake in North Knoxville. The creation of the wetland area will be the last of various infrastructure improvements to the landmark pond. The city has already installed a new water pump, repaired a leak in the earthen border and removed fish species that didn’t belong, and crews are altering the fountain system to add oxygen to the water and combat algae. City workers are “trying to get the ecosystem in balance so it will be healthy going forward,” said Eric Vreeland, city spokesman. “The last thing the city plans to do is going to be the wetlands, and we hope that after that you’ll see deeper water, water that aerates and much less algae.” Algae overpopulation has been a problem for the pond’s ecosystem for many years, Vreeland said, and the issue grew worse when the infrastructure began deteriorating. In May 2013, ducks and fish were found floating dead in the pond, likely a result of too much algae sucking the oxygen from the water. The formation of the wetland area will eliminate a particularly warm, shallow and stagnant section of the pond — all characteristics of an environment in which algae thrives. The new design will provide shade to lower water temperature and will also create a buffer to reduce algae-feeding nutrients and pollutants, according to a news release from the city. The city has invested $260,000 in the lake’s repairs so far, the release states. LDA, the environmental engineering firm contracted for the project, will detail its design of the wetland at a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Lions Club Building, 5345 N. Broadway. While the main topic of the meeting will be the plans for the wetland, Vreeland said another topic for discussion will be the overfeeding of ducks. Visitors often throw pieces of bread, dog food and other inappropriate food to the ducks instead of using the duck food in nearby containers, Vreeland said. The overfeeding increases the amount of feces in the pond, which decreases the quality of the water.
