In 83 we beat Maryland in the Citrus Bowl. We played them again in the Sun Bowl in 84.
Pete Panuska ran a kickoff 100+ yards for TD. White Dude.
Frank Reich brought them back. Then a few years later he beat the Oilers in a great comeback.
Then the Oilers moved to Tennessee.
That's amazing.
Well, not really

One big win. Call it signature or whatever but an upset is vital. This is probably dumb but I think it would be better if it came at home---Just to get some excitement on that campus for a change.
I'd take 5-7 with a kill shot win over either GA or SC than 7-6 and a bowl win over Southern Miss in the MauleRJ Weedeater Bowl.

Good to see you all again,, let me start by posting last years prediction, (as if anyone cares) but will use it for this years model Let me preface this by admitting anti Dooley and have no faith in him. That being said I hear and read many speak of how loaded we are. We are deeper, but much better? OL- same guys as last yr, new coach. How did they look last year? RB- couldnt beat Ky, gave up on team, has beaten no one (yes I know,Cinci,, big deal) RB- umm yeah,,, a midget and a fumbler,, nice combo TE- pretty dang solid WR- talented, but questions. Is Hunter's knee going to be 100%, is DuhRicks mind 100% and can CP get some touches? DL- Big, real big and huge. And new. Could dominate though, going to be interesting to watch. LB's- lots of talent, going to have to stay healthy and make lots of takckles. DB-Lots of ups and downs last year. Will they be more consistent? Return game- Should be strong. Kicking game- If its 4th and less than 10 yards, go for it. That says it all. Coaching- See first line. Does anyone really have confidence that he can win a big game, much less the 2 or 3 big ones he needs this year? Overall record- Using JM"s tier, I think we will lose to Vandy in 1st tier, lose 2 games in 2nd tier, and at least 2 in bottom tier. for a record of 7-5. I hope to be wrong and enjoy a 10-2 year though. Read more: thelivingfan.proboards.com/user/6/recent#ixzz2ay0YjsXS

OK,, this years prediction
OL- pretty damn good, if they can't play we don't win 6 games QB- looking for someone to take over the job, will they find them? RB- turn it up the field and run behind these big boys. Could be an easy job for someone TE- and that is who? WR- maybe some talent, maybe someone can get them the ball, lots of maybe DL- have to control the line, they can do the job, but will they? LB- if D line can play, opens lot of plays for them DB- couldn't be any worse,, could they? Return game- no CP, no excitement Kicking game - see last year Coaching - he can recruit, can he coach? leaning toward yes
The 3 tier's
Tier 1 - Austin Peay, Western Ky, South Alabama, Kentucky Tier 2 - Misouri, Auburn, Vandy, USC Tier 3 - Oregon, Fla, Alabama, Georgia
Have to have 3 wins in tier 1, think we get them. Tier 2 needs 2 wins, could get 3. Tier 3 might have a win.
Overall record- The positive energy around the program before a game is lost makes it easy to say 8+ wins. The depth chart says this team is not that good. Highly motivated and well coached says 8 wins, inexperienced QB a6-6nd poor kicking game says 6 wins. I go with 6-6.

There's no way in the world the Vols beat one of those top teams. If I'm given TN and Bama's rosters and pick out one team, I'd pick our Tackles and everybody else they've got. Kickers too, without even knowing who they are.
There's nobody on this roster that has proven anything other than James and Richardson that they could be elite players.

Bama, I agree. Oregon too. But SC or GA one is likely to come in here with high goals damaged and perhaps not as motivated as they could be.
Sure, it's not likely but I really think we get one of those teams.

Starting to think 10-3 is a lock.

When the likes of Cody Blanc and Pig Howard are relegated to the bench, you know the talent has been elevated to levels never seen.
