Glad to see they found that boy. I'd be scared to death if one of mine disappeared for two days. I have to say, you've got to wonder about that story. Lost in the woods two days, two blocks from Target and Publix?

Yep. Really weird story. Kid who lived in Oak Ridge with is mother disappeared while vising his father and step mother in West Knoxville.
Being the product of a family where the parents divorced when I was young, it sickens me to see how divorce or parents never being married or together in the first place affects kids.

As is just about every part of the Knoxville area that we all knew growing up. I don't recognize the Westmoreland/Rocky Hill area that I grew up in when I go to visit my daughter near Crystal Lake.

Good point Ned. Really, being from Coalfield, we pretty much had to go to Oak Ridge for most things. It is not the same.
Ken. Not at Ken's Barber Shop.
Jackson Square Pharmacy - Some kind of café.
Charlie Painter's Putt-Putt - Gone.
No Big Ed at Big Ed's and they now take debit cards.
At least Jefferson Drug store and Billy's Time Out Deli are still similar to 20 years ago.

Oak Ridge always sounded like a place like where the Steelers played or something. You'd hear "Oak Ridge".and it was like, oh no!
We cant beat anybody named Oak Ridge.

I know you are familiar with DB, and they are similar to DB. Back when the DOE plants were different, and the hiring could be controlled more locally, the best players daddy's always had a job.
Back in about 86 or 87, much of the K-25 plant got notices they were being transferred to Paduka, KY.
All except Shawn Summers' daddy.

First game I ever went to of any kind was at J Fred Johnson for D-B vs Oak Ridge. Im guessing this was 1975 or so. This was the height of Oak Ridges powers (I think) and they were ranked #1 in the nation. Er, I mean in Tennessee. Anyway as this four year old remembers it the score at half was 35-0 OR. I couldnt tell you the final--Im sure we left--but that had a huge impact on me. This bunch is up on D-B 35 zip at half? Dear Lord how much would they beat Central? By a million? I would be very interested to see how close my memory is of the above.

1977 sounds more right. 1975 actually D-B wasnt as great. Sullivan Central actually won its only conference title that year.
And lost in the first round of the playoffs....
To Oak Ridge.

Yeah, seems like Jerry Colquitt and Oak Ridge used to always beat DB then lose to Oakland every year. Then my Sr year Shawn Summers led them to their only state title they've won in the past 35 years. There was a kid that couldn't really hack it at Coalfield that went over there and started for them.
So yes, if we had played in AAA instead of A we could have won it all too.
But seriously as a kid, when Coalfield was off, we went to Oak Ridge to watch them. It was like a college atmosphere.
I remember one year, Paducah Tilghman, led by Billy Jack Haskins, came in there one Saturday and played them. It was literally like a college game. Lots of talent on that field.

I looked up Paducah Tilghman and they have gotten throttled their first two games this year. I guess the DOE has cut back there too.

Lol.
They had that team Louisville Male or somebody that the Brohm kid played for. They came to Nashville his senior year and beat MBA's eyes out.
