He has got/took 5 Vandy recruits or something like that so far. NASHVILLE — Former Vanderbilt football coach James Franklin had a message for national radio audiences on Tuesday.
He said people might think recruits should commit to a school but the reality is they commit to the coach.
Franklin, who was introduced as Penn State’s new coach Saturday, went on The Dan Patrick Show and ESPN’s SVP & Russillo Show and was asked about trying to get Vanderbilt commitments to follow him.
“I don’t know what the (unwritten) rules are there,” Franklin said on The Dan Patrick Show. “I know that I’ve been sitting in living rooms with families and kids, and selling them on a dream and selling them on a vision and our relationship. And I think a lot of people say kids should commit to a school, not a coach. But the reality is they do. Families and kids, they want to make sure their son is going to be taken care of, and it’s about the relationship aspect.

Of course he does. He's trying to make himself feel better about poaching kids he sold on Vandy.
