He was a little bit higher rated than me,in 1992 the year we graduated high school. He was more highly rated because he was left handed.
And he could hit a curve ball.
But this is an interesting stat. It is kinda sad actually. Probably won't happen very many times again.
'He's one of just 13 players to have retired since 1980 having played an entire career of 15 or more seasons with one team. "

Has numbers comparable to multiple Hall of Famers. But I don't think it's steroids that keeps him out but rather Coors Field.

I think he gets in. Won't be first ballot but will get in. Clean from juice will help & he's got numbers.
Knock on him won't be Coors Field per se but lack of post season success.
Baseball cares less about winning and more about stats than other sports. Will happen.

My Dad would fight you over that were he still alive. All the mounds were huge then so that's a wash. But Dodger Stadium isn't known for prolific offense to this day that is for sure.

I know. Helton's numbers are really good, no matter what kind of park it is.
Base hits and to most extent doubles, have no ties to high altitude.
If he had 700 home runs, that might be suspect. He has really good number on the road too.
However he couldn't get the Mag out. I guess that is why he was a first baseman instead of a pitcher.
Seriously, many left handers felt the shame of not being able to get me out.
But a right hander with any kind of breaking ball worth a damn, could easily get me out.

Are you trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?

Oh, Make no bones about it, I was not a great baseball player.
He was probably working on pitches to throw to people who were actually good, because he knew I wasn't going to do any damage.

First watched Helton play as an early teen. Watched him hit the rec center well beyond the center field fence at Alice Bell several times at that age.
When he was in high school and Central played their home games at that awful field at Fountain City Park, Todd was the only player who when he came to bat they would stop the youth league games going on beyond the center and right field fences and make the players go in the dugout to be sure none of them got hit with a home run.
Still the best high school baseball player I have ever seen. There was never any doubt that he would be a big leaguer one day. The only question I had was whether it would be as a position player or as a pitcher. I believe he could have done either with equal success.

I saw Helton play a playoff game in football and he was the best football player I had ever seen.
And was barely serviceable as an SEC QB. Stuff like that makes me marvel at just how good they very elite guys are.
