I am a little miffed that Mullins or Fed have never asked me to go to a race. Id like to check it out but I ain't goin solo.
I grew up about 5 miles from the track. Never been on the grounds other than Christmas in Lights thing when Christian was about 4.
A month ago, I went to play golf at Tri-Cities Country Club and got on that new highway for the first time. As you reach the crest of the hill the sight of Bristol is jaw dropping. It looks like Neyland on 100 years of Barry Bonds snake oil. From that point of view, it rises up out of the ground like a quasi Jacobs Ladder. All around is nothing but pasture (on that side anyway).
I'd like to go. However it's never been real clear to me how everyone involved aren't on the cochlear implant donor list upon exit.

Clint Bowyer with a Fulmer worthy answer.
"A long way to go. We just gotta stay in the hunt"
Clint's Crew Chief
"We just hope we got the set up right to get a decent finish"
Now Danica
"Why is every camera not on my sweet meat?"

From a guy who thinks racing is funny, it seems ridiculous that there are enough cars out there to cover about 3/4 of the track.

I've reached the point in life where I'm finally ready to consider going to a Bristol race. Maybe we could dumbass our way through it together, Cowboy.

Valleydale Meats / Volunteer 500 should be on things to-do-list. one realizes how fast the wheel man & lady wheel man (hehe) are getting around that place in person vs. HDTV. hearing protection is highly recommended. parking with egress in mind will save headache & turmoil upon exiting. 1st time newbies might should consider spring show. less crowded, less Budweiser, MillerLite, Falstaff, & PBR flowing which in turn reduces idiotic behavior a tad. nite show definitely better for ppl. observing, but at my advanced age, day time show is a better fit.
BTW I
not a bad seat in the house
BTW II
higher up seating is less noisy than lower level areas & usually less crowed

It would be worth going just to see Falstaff. I wouldn't drink any though... it was brewed a long time ago.
BTW III THe reason the first 10 rows are empty isn't because they can't sell the tickets. Unless you are wearing goggles you can't see anything from all the dust and debris that gets stirred up that close to the track.

I've never been either . One of my best friends growing up, and former roommate's dad owned a Chevy dealership and he always had tickets. Always asked me to go, and I always came up with something better to do.
I used to think I should have had my good ole boy card taken away from me because of that. But they would always tell me about something that went wrong
so I was always thankful for not going. Until that night Earnhardt won by spinning Terry LeBonte out at the end. I wished I had gone that night.
BUT, since Cowboy grew up in the State of Franklin, and never went, I don't feel so bad.

I was there that night Ironhead turned Labonte on the last lap. Ironhead had been put to the bcak a couple of times that night for rough driving (irony) and came back through the field. He put on a show. There is nobody in the sport like him now. If I remember, there was a pretty long rain delay that night, so we didn't get back to Knoxville till 3 or 4 in the morning. A trip to Bristol should be on everybodies bucket list.

That '95 race was the best of all time. The 3 car looked like it had been to a demo derby. Was in the pit area from '88 to '06 and had a blast every time. The racing may not be what it once was, but the experience is still very good.

I went with some friends one night to see a truck race. That's the only time I've been. Pretty sure Mike Skinner won, so that might give some idea how long ago it was. There was a rain delay, too.
I know I had a good time, but what I most remember was a Dodge smoking the field for fifty miles or so, then blowing an engine and limping into the pits.
The midnight breakfast buffet we had at Shoney's on the way home was good, too.
