Butch Jones spends Friday night visiting five-star tackle
Butch Jones visited Memphis University School on Friday night to check in on five-star offensive tackle Drew Richmond, who is currently committed to Ole Miss.
Jones is putting (keeping) the full court press on Richmond and his presence didn’t go unnoticed by those attending the game, as fans in the stadium chanted his name.

Ainge said on Swain this morning that Worley is a large part of the problem with the line. He said linemen need to know where the QB is gonna be, but Worley just isn't consistent in his drops. He thinks at this point JW is understandably gunshy and watching the rush instead of looking downfield, which makes matters even worse and leads to interceptions. Ainge said that if you set up in a consistent spot, you can tell the linemen that they only have to protect that one area, or words to that effect. They can let their man do anything else, just don't get beat there. He would also get rid of the football in two seconds. He said the QB needs to trust his guys to give him that much time and pay attention downfield. This is accurate by Ainge. Worley floats into the ends constantly. He has to stay in the pocket and step up. Hope for the best. MUCH easier said than done though. I'm not buying this. The rush is blowing through that line from every direction. They are waving at the defensive ends every other play. Florida was rushing three and weren't being slowed down. Ainge is just bring an attention whore.

Worley doesn't seem to be able to feel the pressure very well at all. Maybe that's because it's coming from all directions. That fatal fumble against Florida exemplifies it. I saw that coming for a good two seconds. It was from Worley's right and the blitzer wasn't hidden in a crowd. That one play might have been the turning point this season. If TN punts there instead of setting the woman beating freshman Florida QB on the 30 then Florida doesn't win that game.

I guess technically it was a rape rather then a beating (in the dorm, not in Neyland).

I can think of two plays he flushed right directly into the end that was being blocked. Both times he had a clean pocket. Understand, I am not ripping him here. He EXPECTS pressure and who could blame him. This is a coaching thing. He has to stay in the pocket and get hammered or throw it away. Everytime he is on the move he throws a pick. Literally every time.

We know what we've been watching and it's easy to come to the conclusion that these linemen just can't play. I'm usually pretty big on the "Why is that?" question, no matter what the topic is. It seems reasonable to me that the QB play could be at least a factor.
It's kinda like when there's an interception, the first thought is the QB threw a bad pass. There's often more to it than that. Unless we know what everyone is supposed to be doing, judging the results is primarily speculation.

I say this about every week but never see it discussed anywhere else--the wideouts are NOT good. Or they never get open anyway.
Now, not being at the games maybe Worley just never sees them or most of the time he gets hit before he can find them. I wouldnt doubt that. But remember in Spurriers prime when they had about 5 completions a game where there wasnt a defender anywhere on the screen? I cant recall even one play like that in a year in a half for UT.
Again, lotta reasons that could be--shitty play design or even lack of running game. But Im really concerned that the WR's are average. North in particular. Either he is pedestrian or he made a career killing decision coming here.

North and Malone have NFL talent, but I think the two best pass catchers are Smith and Pearson. I don't think North and Malone are ready to be the primary targets.
Pig is too small and isn't fast enough to be a featured wideout. Nice slot guy, but not a great go to receiver.
Croom has the body to be great, but has dropped way too many balls.
None of them seem to be able to get off of the line of scrimmage when being harassed by DBs.
Johnson looked great against UTC but has a pig-like body.

Worley barely has time to look for his second option. Doubt if he's ever had time to look for a third this year.

One thing I recall Bajakian telling the HS coaches at the clinic I worked is that the QB knows where he's gonna throw the ball before the snap, based on his read of the defense. It doesn't seem to be working out too well recently.

We can try to break down the right offenses etc and place the playmakers in the right position but at the end of the day doesn't mean chit. Butch's system is sadly as good as we can do.
The ceiling for tn football is nine wins. Just have to grin and bear it for other programs to eff up until that day. This ain't your daddy's Tennessee.

I'll take 9 wins in a heart beat. I'm good with 8 wins for the next few years too.

High level cheating is the only answer. It really is. And based on recruiting it appears that is happening to an extent. Time to raise that to defcon 10.
