I vaguely remember Taylor but I really remember Tate. I got Big John's autograph one day at Chilhowee Park. Can't remember if there was another event going on or not. As I recall he had run in one of the early editions of the Expo 10K and I was geeked up that I had done something this behemoth of a man had done as well. He was a helluva athlete. Wonder where that autograph is? Guys, with all the focus on football head trauma, what chance does boxing have of hitting it big again? Pun intended?

Not quite, but not avoided, either.

BT and Big John were from the Ace Miller camp. Seems like there might have been another with some national success around that time frame. Ted Ray Miller and ACE were brothers. TRM was as corrupt than the Butchers. He did the tax payers a favor in 1989 when he used that shotgun backwards. Clinton Jackson from Nashville was one of the first fighters I remember Ace really promoting. Ace helped a lot of young guys get out of the ghetto and make something out of themselves - or at least those who would try to do what he asked them to do.

My Dad has a great story about my Grandfather losing tickets to a Big John Tate fight. This was back when Ramsey's was on UT Campus. Papaw claimed he had given em to Dad to lock up in the safe at the restaurant, and of course Dad sweared up and down Papaw had em somewhere. I believe they ended up buying another pair the night of the fight or close to it, and apparently they found the other tickets the day after the fight in Papaw's coat pocket.

JM, I remember one time, my papaw, Coalfield Herman, took his Vandy tickets with him to Neyland, for the first game of the season against Pitt.
They still let him in

Hard to believe their were tickets still available the night before. Especially in that day and age.
Heavyweight champ in his first defense in his home town and they couldn't sell that out?
Crazy.

Claaaassic... Just got off the phone with dad. Guy was half asleep but perked right up when I told him what I called about. He told the story for 30 minutes. Recalled every detail. "'Course I get blamed for everything..."

JM, that was 1983. He worked with the guy that took up tickets. He told him "Just bring those Pittsburgh tickets to the Vandy game and I'll let you in."
I can't imagine them letting that go on now.
I remember that Pitt game. The Panther mascot scared me to death, because you could see the guy's face, through the mouth of the suit.

Has there ever been a thread where everyone just tells some of their best/favorite stories?
Actually, it seems that this board has a habit of producing some really good ones no matter what the subject is, so never mind, I guess.

Just provided a thread for this very topic.
