I remember W149 - liked the programming, but probably the weakest signal strength in the history of radio. The FCC makes most AM stations decrease the power from their transmitters at night to protect other station's frequencies. W149 would turn off their main transmitter and turn on a very low power transmitter near the UT campus. They covered the UT area very well. I think that the studio was just up the hill behind Regions Bank off of The Strip in the glass office building.

Had it on but wasn't paying close attention. It's pretty much unchanged. Said streaming archive would happen. There is also an App being developed as an alternative to the Tune-In radio App.
Fred White was on for a few minutes and will remain as a Friday regular.
Philly called and was trashing UT and Butch as usual. He got the first flushing.

Also, there is a live local show that follows from 6-8.
The station stays at full power in the evening.

Link is to the debut show on WKGN 1340. Sounds like they were allowed to take most if not all of the Drive's audio sound bite schstick along with them into the new gig. Happy the boys seem to have landed on they feet.

1340 is in better position to muscle in on 990/Cumulus. Not exactly a blow torch of an antenna, but 94.3 wasn't either. Much better than 1180, 1040, and maybe 1240. It would be nice for Knoxville to have an alternative to the Sports Animal. TSR gave it a shot, but powering down at night hurt them.
It is going to get interesting locally. WIVK and the Sports Animal are owned by Cumulus. Cumulus is in deep trouble. They own a bunch of radio stations around the country (400+) but are only valued at $100 million on Wall Street. They have over $2 billion in debt (20x more debt than market value). By comparison, Dick Broadcasting sold WIVK and their other Knoxville, Nashville, and Birmingham stations to Citadel for $350 million. Cumulus bought Citadel's stations when Citadel went bankrupt. For those want to take a risk that Cumulus can survive, shares are down to about 60 cents from over $4 not long ago.
