I'm not a big golf fan...
But Cowboy you are a good writer and do a real nice job with this column. If it is something that interests you, I hope this leads to more opportunities as a sports journalist.

I watched a lot more golf when I was a kid than I do now and was always a big Arnie fan. It would have been nice if he could have challenged Jack more often, but after that '64 Masters it seemed that I was more hoping he'd win than I was believing he would win.
Anyway, I was always for the "other guy". Watson was probably my next favorite. For whatever reason I never pulled for Jack.

It was really too much before my time. My Dad liked Jack and I was 10 when he won his last Open at Baltusrol. So I would kind of be for him but never watched any of it. He never won anymore after that of course until the '86 Masters. I suspect I wouldnt like him today. I never like the dominant player/team except Roger Federer for whatever reason.
If you liked Watson, you had some good days unlike us Mickleson fans who never had a glory Sunday over Tiger head to head.

That's true. I was watching when he made those shots you wrote about. Thanks for doing a nice job of bringing them to mind.

I remember that Open when Watson chipped in, and ran around like a fool. I disliked him because of that. I liked Jack.
Then when I was 11, I REALLY became a big Jack fan, and MASTERS fan, when he won that one. Even though I was kind of starting to like Norman, and felt sorry for him, I was really into that MASTERS.
Funny how you remember exactly where you were on things like that. I was at my Aunt's house in South Knoxville watching that one. I remember the night before I cut my elbow on their hide-a-bed. And my little sister, who was getting ready to turn 3, and my little cousin poured a bunch of ketchup and jelly and other stuff in the bathtub in the middle of the night.
But I remember most, about the weekend, was Jack. 16 has since been my favorite hole on that course.

Pretty sure I saw the chip in at Pebble Beach live. I never liked Watson after that either. It seemed lucky to me.
That '86 Masters I didn't even watch and I'm not entirely sure I even knew Jack won until the next day at school. Ironically, not watching made me a fan because I swore I would never miss a sports moment like that again.

I would probably say 12 but that would actually make for a good post.
