It's pretty sad what the playoff selection committee did to TCU. First, if those first few polls were meaningless, why have them at all? If TCU was #3 heading into the last weekend, win their game easily, they did nothing to lose their spot. The committee needs to stop releasing polls in the weeks leading up to the actual selection if they don't mean anything. Having said that, we all knew Ohio State was going to be included after that thumping in the Big Ten championship game. I guess they felt like it's easier to screw TCU than to leave out the Big Ten champion. What a joke.

Preface: Jeff Long is not real quick on his feet and was a poor choice to be the public face of the committee.
I really have little energy for debating this anymore but the committee actually was pretty upfront all along if you listened to what they said and took them at their word instead of relying on how media/coaches polls worked on the past.
1) all along they said they valued conference championships. They were very clear on that point. That's why I knew all the talk about 2 or 3 SEC teams earlier in the season was crazy talk.
2) They really did start with a clean sheet of paper each week. They weren't obligated to reconcile moves.
3) the Tuesday show was programming to build interest. Nothing more nothing less.

TCU didn't finish over Baylor. Which of course is exactly how it should have been.

WVU beat Baylor Baylor beat TCU TCU beat WVU 4 other teams beat WVU
Even Spock can't see the logic of ranking Baylor or TCU ahead of each other.

I don't have a problem with Baylor finishing ahead of TCU. That's how it should have been. My problem is the ridiculous polls that placed TCU in the top 4 and then they jerk them out of there without them doing something to deserve that. What a bummer for the TCU fans.

Read my post MRM. If you had listened to the committee you would have known this was going to happen.

Didn't they have Miss State and Mississippi in the first four for a week or two? Since they were going to play each other one was sure to drop out. The weekly rankings served no purpose other than stirring up interest.

They should just publish an alphabetical list of teams in the mix each week if they want to duck the critics.
What they are probably doing is just fueling the fire to expand to eight or more teams. Bowls still have a lot of the power and a playoff disrupts the old bowl system. All hell's about to break loose.

I cant believe I am saying this but Ohio State was the right call. Im in danger of falling prey to recency bias but that destruction of Wisconsin on a neutral field separates them from the other flawed candidates for the 4 spot.

What if there were only two? Alabama and Oregon? But FSU is undefeated.

The weekly rankings served no purpose other than stirring up interest. Exactly. It is 100% about stirring up interest. But anyone that was listening should have known that. The rest of the media played along because it gave them column inches & radio topics. But the committee itself was never disingenuous They acknowledged the only one that mattered was the last one

The weekly ranking do matter some. You may see a small shuffle in places week to week, but unless someone loses, there won't be a big jump.OSU moved up 1 spot after a huge win in a conference championship. FSU moved up 1 spot after a close win. TCU dropped 3 but I suspect that is because the committee realized it looked weird to have Baylor ranked lower than TCU since they beat them. The little 12 naming TCU and Baylor co-champions was dumb. Baylor beat TCU in the head to head tie breaker
A couple of things need to happen for teams like Baylor and TCU to contend. One is the little 12 needs to have a conference championship game. The rule is there must be 12 teams in a conference for that to happen, but my sources say the committee could allow a conference to have a championship game if the conference appeals for one. The second thing is TCU and Baylor need to schedule a big out of conference game. TCU's out of conference strength of schedule is laughable.
I think the committee picked the right teams in this case even though I would have liked to see Baylor in FSU's place. But you can't drop the defending champs out when they are undefeated even if they have the easiest schedule year to year.

The Big 12 WILL NOT get championship game waiver. Its the entire reason the Big 10 added Nebraska because they were denied the same request. If they gave it to the Big 12, Jim Delaney would have Tomahawk Missiles raining down on NCAA headquarters post haste.

Sports, politics, whatever, I'd say that about 90% of what we read is propaganda.
Too bad that so few of us ever make it into the back rooms where stuff actually gets done.

Here is another thing--say Mississippi State had beaten OleMiss. You have cabbages growing out of your head of you think they stay at that 4 spot over blue blood Ohio State. Flat out no way that would have been allowed.
