I was standing around tailgating in Circle Park, and here came a group of people. They walked by, and the guy I was talking to said "That's The Colonel".
I wasn't even paying attention, until he had already passed by.
I always think a guy like that, would be 100x better to combat racial stereotypes than the ones who try.
UT grad, and Bronze Star winner.

Lt. Col. Allen West. Look him up. I don't need to look up Lt Col Allen West. LTC I'm a little fuzzy on.

So our military of days yesteryear was basically like little league parents of today...everybody gets a trophy. Interesting

Met LTC West at a dinner a year or so ago. Class act, and a great representative for UT.
Great Twitter follow and Facebook follow, by the way. His blog is superb.

Sometimes there was a barrel full of medals to stick your hand into when you boarded the plane home, figuratively. A WWII / Korean War vet told me that story before I went over. In truth, many were deserved that were never awarded and vice-versa. A lot depended on how a company clerk worded the recommendation. I know Gus didn't get what he deserved.

I was able to come home with all my parts and pieces attached and working. That was plenty for me as I had friends who weren't so lucky. I still think of them and what might have been for them and their families.
