to be a difference making in-game coach. He was expected to recruit, have the players prepared, and keep the roster 180 opposite from Kiffin's Thugs.
If he keeps doing those things, you can expect him to elevate his own in-game performance over time.
Actually the Jethros expect flawlessness.

Disagree with you, Thunder. A coach can recruit until the cows come home, but if he and his staff can't put them in a position to make plays they are more useless than an empty water bottle in the middle of The Sahara. Got to at least be an adequate coach.

That's a reach. How are the players not in a position to make plays? The other players are simply better right now... no matter how you line them up.
TN was in position to win going into the 4th quarter. All thst was needed was two stops and three scores.

"TN was in position to win going into the 4th quarter. All thst was needed was two stops and three scores."
Everytime I see stupid shit like this, even though its weekly, I shudder to think people like this are on the streets.
That first sentence is a doozy.
To gramps point---NO, ThunderBoBeep it isnt as simple as being first on the Rivals list every year. You better be in the top 10 every year. But so long as you are if you dont have the right Captain you might as well recruit like Vandy.
Zook recruited better than anyone. So did Mack Brown.

Mack Brown won a National Championship. Great point.

TN needs to get to 9-3 ASAP. That won't happen this decade with another change.

Mack Brown won a National Championship. Great point. So did Fulmer and Danny Ford and Gene Chizik dipshit. Thunder, this is one of those times where you are wrong. And we've all seen how this plays out when you are wrong rather than admitting to that you dig in like a mongoose to the back of a snake. Stick to your narrative, Bruh. We need diversity 'round here.

The sooner TN gets solidly away from 5-7 seasons the better. Butch is in position to go 9-3 or 8-4 every year. That's better than history. That keeps you in the hunt for a 16 team playoff.
I'm just not going ballistic less than two years into a four year rebuilding process. If Butch's in game decision making truly causes loses in 2016, then off with his head. Bitching about him now does nothing except maybe preventing Jethro owned dogs from getting kicked.

If TGO was a woman, she'd stay with an abusive spouse and keep telling her friends, "he'll be better in a couple years when (insert excuse here)..."

I'm simply needing the bleeding to stop before expecting championships to magically appear. Anybody that doesn't see a major improvement over the last two years is a fool. The record doesn't reflect the upgrade.

The record doesn't reflect the upgrade. Sometimes I'm arguing for the sake of it but I seriously don't see any improvement. I mean none at all. I guess if you want to say defensively but compared to Sunseri it would have to be. Nothing is better. Not the O Line, not the QB situation, nothing except recruiting banners. Maybe these kids will work out. I don't see any program difference makers out of them though. Jalen is a good player but he is no Gurley. Malone looks pretty decent but he is no Cooper. He looks like another North to me. Barnett may be in the Haynesworth type player discussion. And if so, could add a win somewhere. But that has to happen because the record looks EXACTLY like Dooleys. If not a little worse.

Penalties are down. Tackling is better. Turnover ratio is probably better too, unfortunately many of the turnovers were of the devastating type. Big difference in throwing an interception 40 yards down field and a pick six when the defense is lined up in their own end zone. Special teams are better too. Look at Palardi under Dooley v these coaches. Kick coverage is better. Punting is better.
It takes time to fix it all under these circumstances.

Penalties and tackling I would definitely agree.

I mean put them in a position as not to do stupid MAC/CUSA stuff like sending a linebacker who hasn't touched the football all year long in when you have it third and a foot at the 5 yard line with a chance to score a TD, and especially when you have your "running" QB in the game.

Calling the Beast play on third and one is one that would have been called brilliant if it had worked.
Not the greatest call in my opinion. But Johnson, Dobbs, and Hurd would have all been stuffed. Faking a run and dumping a pass to a tight end might have gotten the first down, but Dobbs isn't known for his precision passes.
Play calling was criticized earlier in the year for not running the beast on a short yardage, failed to convert play near the goal line. Seems like it was Florida... south end zone.
