You seen a line on camp co / halls? I'm thinking something like CC -25 That Hauls/Pal game down the road on Packer TV is looking to be a real slobberknocker. One of them will likely end up with its second and last win of the season. And that's a shame, by the way. Two programs that have taken definite downturns, and in a hurry in one of the cases.

.Grace Christian vs CAK – This one is interesting. Grace Christian’s “coming out” was a few years ago when they beat CAK at home in Devin Smith’s sophomore year. CAK went on to win one of their state championships that year, and that win helped Grace to become a bigger player in the private school “recruiting” game. GCA was the number one ranked team in 2A for the first 3 weeks of the regular season until an upset loss to McMinn County. GCA has had some off the field stuff happen, too, that has kept some players out. CAK has struggled against their other private school rivals thus far in 2014, losing to neighbor schools Cathlolic and Webb. My gut tells me that CAK will win this one at home, although it wouldn’t surprise me to see CGA win on the road. I’m going with CAK to win on its home turf.
.Silverdale vs Sweetwater – Two mediocre at best football teams. Neither one has beaten a good team to this point. I’m going with Sweetwater to win, based solely on the fact that they are playing at home.
.Hardin Valley vs Catholic – Hardin Valley is a big football team. Not a lot of speed, but big. They were good enough to play Murvl relatively close with Murvl’s QB being out with injury. I saw them the week before against a very good South Doyle team, and they just had no answer for the Cherokee’s speed. Catholic is a solid team, with good size and decent speed. Catholic also got in to a bit of trouble this week with the TSSAA, but nothing that affects them this season. Playing at home is huge for Catholic. Last year Catholic won 15-14 at Hardin Valley. I expect them to win again this week, but it won’t be as close. Fighting Areish get the win.
.Karns vs Clinton – Tobi Kilgore is making progress at Karns, despite the record thus far. The culture within the football program has been one of just plain depression. He’ll get it done, but it is going to take a while. Clinton is a good offensive team even without Jaylon Woods. Tyler Thackerson is a very good QB, one who will play at some level of college football, most likely D2 or NAIA. This will be a decent football game for a while, but Clinton will pull away in the second half and get a comfortable win.
.Anderson County vs Powell – This series has been a blood feud pretty much for its entire history. Frankly, these two teams, schools, and communities just don’t care much for each other. AC, of course, ruined Powell’s perfect season in 2010 in the second round of the playoffs after Powell had blown them out 42-12 in the regular season that year. Since then, Powell has won 4 straight in the series, and the average score of those 4 has been 49-24 in favor of Powell, and AC scored 43 in one of those losses. Powell has won 5 of the last 6 by an average score of 43-22. Powell has struggled this year, and frankly, isn’t a very good football team. I felt coming in like AC would be a good football team given that Matt Fox and his 2400 yards rushing as a junior was returning, but they lost pretty much everything other than Fox. The fact that they are rolling like they are and are unbeaten and ranked #4 in the state is a testament to how good a coach Davy Gillum is. The fact that these two teams don’t like each other at all, and that this is likely the last game in the series for at least a while since Powell is projected to be a 5A school next year after reclassification and AC a 4A school, I like AC to extract a pound of flesh that they feel like they are owed in this series. I see a big AC win and the hammer kept down for a while.
.Union County vs Scott – Scott. In a “who cares?” football game.
.Kingston vs Lenoir City – Lenior City got a win over hapless Bearden last week. They are surprisingly to me a .500 team right now at 2-2. Kingston’s lone win was a huge upset win over Rockwood. I don’t expect this game to be close. I see Lenoir City going to 3-2.
.Jellico vs Pickett County – Two. Bad. Teams. Only one win in 9 tries between them, that by Picket County over a tiny town team from Bumblefrick, KY. This could be one of the worst games in the state this week. Going with the Picketers to win at home.
.Cumberland Gap vs Gatlinburg-Pittman – GP has 3 wins over really bad teams and 2 losses to good to very good teams thus far this year. CG’s lone win is an 18-14 win over North Greene. Benny Hammonds can still coach, and his team will get the home win. GP by a lot.
.Sevier County vs Maryville – Sevier County has an outstanding QB in Deuce Wallace, a junior who is a D1-A prospect that I see ending up at a mid-major. He throws the ball really well and runs well enough to hurt you if you don’t account for that. Maryville is Maryville, and even without the aforementioned QB who missed last week’s game with Hardin Valley, I will still pick them to win until they don’t. Sevier County is no better than West, and West couldn’t find a way to beat Murvl, and even without Vaught if he can’t go, I don’t think SC can beat the Red Rebs, either, and especially at Murvl. The Fightin’ GQs get the win.
.Austin-East vs Chatt. Brainerd – In past years this was an awesome matchup with athletes all over the field on both sides. This year, however, the teams are a combined 1-9. Bottom line – Brainerd is on a “roll” with a one game win streak after beating East Ridge last week. I like them to win at home.
.William Blount vs Jefferson County – Two teams with one win each, both coming last Friday. I saw Jeff County a few weeks back. Can’t understand why they have only 1 win. They put a good number of very good athletes on the field. I like Jeff County in this one.
.Heritage vs Alcoa – Alcoa. By as many points as they want.
.Halls vs Campbell County – Campbell County. Ditto my Heritage vs. Alcoa comment.
.Fulton vs Central – I really like Central’s new coach, Bryson Rosser. He’s a great fit for that job and is going about the rebuild the correct way. That said, his team is playing Fulton this week. Fulton wins this border battle about the same way they have won pretty much every game this far this year.
