Anybody else notice the decline in quality of the turf on Shields Watkins Field in recent years?

Field at Bama is natural grass and looked virtually immaculate (on TV anyway), throughout a pretty fast and physical football game today.
The field at Neyland looks like a goat/cow pasture in comparison, and that hasn't always been the case.

Yep. It's not nearly as good as he has been.
Surprises me. The same guys that take care of it take care of the playing surface at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, and that surface is one of the better playing surfaces in college baseball.
Don't get it. Shield-Watkins gets virtually no wear. It shouldn't ever have issues.

And nowadays the orange and white looks washed out. This is how vivid those checkerboards used to look. By comparison they now suck. What is up with that??

Look fine in both pics IMO JMO That's my point. The pics were from several seasons past. The field used to look great, but now is noticeably in much poorer shape and seemingly not being maintained to prior standards.

Saving money since we aren't on in prime time anymore.

Knoxville isn't exactly an ideal climatic zone to grow turf type grass in the Fall. Especially when compared to most of the rest of the league being much further South.
Agree with JM. Looks fine to me. Although I don't know why most all stadiums don't switch to that tire turf.

Shields-Watkins looks horrible. The grass is so thin you can see the dirt in some areas. Bobby Campbell (one of the best in the US) and his staff did a masterful job keeping it green and lush. Over seeding with rye in the fall kept it green all season long. Just another example of our Athletic Department going in the wrong direction.

Or something else?
