Basilio said he's not going to be on after TN State on Saturday. I'm not clear if he means just him or if the show isn't webcasting. I'm thinking the show won't be on at all.

Basilio is going to Nashville to watch the Predators v Philly Flyers. You can take the boy out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the boy.
I still don't know if just Basilio will be absent after TN State or if the post game is not going to happen at all. The Keith guy may not know how to twist the knobs and Mrs B may not care for him hanging out in her basement.
I like having an alternate to the Vol Network's cookie cutter programming, but I wonder if that thing will last beyond this year. Basilio needs national advertising for streaming to work and those guys only spend with the big dogs. Basilio has Hardee's Hamburger dollars, but their media buyer (Pate) is a local guy. I kind of doubt that Basilio listeners are buying a chit load of ball bearings.

You've managed to jumble several issues together in one post thunder.
The question around is Tiny's schedule sustainable as a one man band is very different than the one around attracting & selling advertising.
Being an independent in a radio world dominated by mega corporations is difficult.
That said, I don't think Tony should target national advertisers with his current format. I realize because he streams theoretically he can have listens all over but those non-local listeners are accidental. Something an advertiser would not care much about.
If he wanted to build a national audience (& sponsors) he'd have to stop being Tennessee focused and frankly tighten up the quality of his product. What his core local audience considers charming and familiar wouldn't fly. Things like caller pace and quality would be important.

What is the specific definition of caller pace and what happens on Tony's show that breaks that law?

Ask Clint. He can explain it to you.

Abysmal Caller Pace < Waterboarding.
In fact I think forcing suspected terrorists to listen to Tonah (& his callers) would be an effective form of torture

The terrestrial radio and weekday show seems to be working very well for Basilio. He doesn't even need to deliver ratings if he can put butts in the seats at his remotes. So he's able to sell Elidio's, Pancho's, Smart Way, Stover's, Copper Cellar/Calhoun's, Sushi Spot, Fairways and Greens, Jiffy Lube, Computer Depot, Campbell Cunningham Laser Ctr, etc. He has Pilot and Hardee's too but they're just buying locally even though they are national companies.
I just wonder if he'll keep on with the post basketball game programming since most of the time it's too late to draw people into restaurants. Those shows are exclusively internet streaming and much more of the audience isn't local. So without spots that are relevant outside of Knoxville I'm not sure who will advertise. Of course he's not running recorded spots in the Basketball Overtime program. Dalton Bearings seems like an odd title sponsor.
I think that Fairways & Greens and Smart Way are the same ownership. The Keller family (Kel-San and IJ). I wonder if Dalton Bearings is in other businesses as well.
I do find it interesting that TB will stir the chit up with the UTAD pretty regularly and Pilot is one of his biggest advertisers. I wonder if Big Oil (or more likely Jimmy) ever picks up the phone and "suggests" TB's talking points.
I often wonder what the operation is grossing. I'm sure a lot of it is trade and his kids ate probably sick of Hardee's and Elidio's. I wonder if Keith has put on a roof on the Beaver Brook home as payment...
I'm a fan of Punk and Clown Inc. It's nice to have something other than cookie cutter corporate radio.

Speaking of caller pace, just about every show he'll go dead silent for 5-10 seconds a few times. I always check the phone to see if the connection was lost.

No matter what you think of his show, it seems to me that TB is having more fun than he's had in years. The role he's chosen suits him well.

I agree local terrestrial radio can still work with local sponsors and listeners.
To your point Thunder, maybe he views the streaming Postgame shows as brand building and isn't worried about revenue contribution at least in the short run.

I'll ramble on... I don't think Basilio is making money off of the basketball post game show (as evidenced by his bailing out to watch hockey tonight). That's why I wonder if he'll keep on running with it. Are enough ball bearings being sold in order for Dalton to re-up a contract?

It's added value for the radio advertisers and also promos for the Basilio brand. And as Wolf says, he's doing it for fun.

And when I mentioned national advertisers I was thinking more like not local. TN sports is his product, streaming is world-wide, but his listenership target could be more state wide and regional. He kind of needs advertisers that have a message that is relevant in Nashville, Chattanooga, tri-cities, even Memphis and Atlanta. People in those locations don't give s damn about that local business list that I had a few posts back.
