1.Maryville vs Knox.West - I will pick Maryville until I don't, which means that somebody has actually beaten them. West is a great high school football team with speed all over the field. Offensively they aren't any better than Alcoa, however, and Maryville just flat out stone cold stopped Alcoa's offense. This defense of Maryville is as good as they have had during the George Quarles era, and that's saying something. As I said, West is a great team, but from what I have seen and in talking to folks who know far more about it than I it appears that they do have some issues up front that need to be addressed. Marvyille wins, probably by 3 scores or so.
2.McMinn Central vs Sequayoah - Tough game to pick. McMinn Central is 2-0, while Sequoyah is 1-1. Not sure the quality of the teams that McMinn Central has beaten is very good, however. Sequoyah beat a decent Tellico Plains team, but lost to a decent Walker Valley team. Should be a good game. I like Sequoyah playing at home.
3.Jellico vs Lynn Camp (Ky) - 2 teams that aren't very good. Lynn Camp lost to Campbell County 64-0. Jellico lost last week to an awful Tri-Cities Christian team. I'm guessing that Lynn Camp is more awful than is Jellico, however. I'll take the Jelly Bears to win. 4.Powell vs Karns - Two programs that have been beaten badly in their first two games. Also two programs where there is a lot of bad feelings between the two. Tobi Kilgore and most of his staff coached at Powell last year and then left for Karns. Powell has been in free fall since, losing some 7 starters since spring practice ended, and the word I got yesterday was that 3 more starters apparently turned in their equipment yesterday. I just hate seeing the program going through all of this, but it's a byproduct of the revolving door that has been the football coaches office for various reasons over the last 4 years. Bad feelings aside, this game was going to be a good chance for one or the other to get a win and was a coin flip type game as it was. Now with the events of the weekend, I am leaning towards taking Karns, and especially since they have the home field. I believe that Karns will get the win.
5.McMinn County vs Cleveland - Both teams are 0-2 with Cleveland losing badly to McCallie and in a close game to Cookeville. McMinn County lost to rival McMinn Central and were also shellacked by McCallie. Cleveland is not a bad football team, while McMinn still is. The Blue Raid-ahs get off the snide.
6.Scott vs Kingston - Scott can score points. Kingston can't. Therefore Scott wins by as many as they want to.
7.Pigeon Forge vs Carter - Tough game to read. Pigeon Forge scored 71 in a win over little bitty Cosby in week zero and then had week 1 off. Carter lost a tough home opener to Gibbs and then beat Cocke County like a drum. Should come down to the better offense that Pigeon Forge has vs. the better defense of Coach Mac and Carter. In what is almost a coin flip game, I like Pigeon Forge's offense just a bit better than I do Carter's defense. Pigeon Forge gets the win.
8.Cocke County vs Seymour - Two teams I will see later in the season. Seymour wins at home.
9.Bearden vs Heritage - Two pretty bad teams. Bearden has been beaten 35-0 and 84-0 in its two games. Heritage needed a very late score against 3rd and 4th teamers on Friday night to get to "within" 55-14 against South Doyle in a game that I had the pleasure of doing play by play in on Friday. Heritage has some decent offensive weapons. Bearden doesn't, to go along with a weak defense. Bearden's misery continues - Heritage gets the home win.
10.Knox. Central vs Campbell County - If I weren't working the Jeff County at South Doyle game this week, this is a game that I would consider going to. Campbell County is an awesome offensive team, but they have a ton of holes to fill on defense. They've played two awful Kentucky teams thus far, so it's hard to get a read on that defense of DC Matt Price just yet. As I have been saying, Central could be the surprise team of District 3AAA this year with new head coach Bryson Rosser, and they looked very good in going to Jeff County on Friday and taking home a convincing win. Central's defense will be the best by far that Cougar Head Coach/OC Justin Price's offense has seen thus far, so it will be interesting to see how they handle the Bobcat speed. Should be a great game, and I see it as a close game. I'm going with Price's Cougars to get a close win, but it wouldn't shock me to see Central pull an upset.
11.Oneida vs Wartburg - Tony Lambert is a great high school football coach, and his program is always very good. Wartburg is, well, Wartburg. Oneida wins big.
12.Harriman vs Rockwood - A really intense rivalry between two border towns. Both teams are 2-0, with 3 of the 4 wins coming over bad teams. Rockwood has a win over the aforementioned Oneida team of Tony Lambert, however. Based on that and the fact that Rockwood has the home field, I like Rockwood.
13.Cherokee vs Morristown West - M'town West is trying to rebound from an unusually bad 3-7 season, and they are already 2-0 including a thumping of an out maned West Green team, and then they went to Greeneville and won 21-14 over the Greene Devils in a mild upset that I called last week. Cherokee is 0-2 including a shellacking at the hands of Sullivan South, and then a two TD game to a not very good Daniel Boone team. M'town West gets the win in this one, as well, to equal last year's win total after just 3 games.
14.Oakdale vs Oliver Springs - 1 win between the two teams thus far, and it was an Ollie Springs win over a not very good Unaka team. Yet, they won, and I see them winning this one. The Springers prevail.
15.Jefferson County vs South Doyle - South Doyle is a solid football team. Jeff County has struggled as of late, including the aforementioned loss at home to Knoxville Central last week. Patriot coach Kenny Cobble is a good guy, and all indications are that he will get that program turned around, but it won't be this week in my opinion. The Cherokees get the win in their 2014 home opener, and I will be there to call the action on AM 620.

Gramps, I would agree with all points.
West is good, but Maryville is the best program in the state. West is thankful they are 5A and Maryville is 6A, because this gives them a good read on where they are, and they can win out from here. I do think they will give Maryville a good game, for awhile, then Maryville's size advantage will be way too much to handle.

I see West, South Doyle, and I thought probably Oak Ridge as the three best 5A teams in the area, but I'm not sure about Oak Ridge at this point. They still need to find some answers at some key positions. Campbell County is very good offensively, but again, defensive questions. Anderson County has an awesome running back in Matthew Fox, but I am just not sure they have the horses around him to make a deep run this year. Obviously I am invested in South Doyle this year, but even before I began that affiliation I still saw them and West as the 5A favorites this year on the Eastern side of the bracket.

OK, CB - You and I have both picked all of the games on the list all three weeks now.
So, how does the total number of games that you, Dog, and Silkie have picked only come up to 45, while the number I have picked adds up to 48?
As Blues Traveler says in a song, "there is something amiss".

Magnum will be the winner. 80% correct over a whole season will not be surpassed.

Can't blame this on common core. I reckon 4.5 got his book learnin after that was implemented.
