1. Maryville. But I hope Alcoa really beats them up physically, so they have a tough turn around when they roll into Marble City to take on the REAL Rebels.
2. Jeff County, for my boy Mauler and my preacher.
3. I HATE CATHOLIC. I am going dressed as Martin Luther to cheer on my Yeller Jackits.
4. I can't stand Farragut or Oak Ridge. I really couldn't care less who wins.
5. What is Tri-Cities Christian? Jellico is horrible. Once again, another team I got to play against. Enough said. I have to go to TCC.
6. Rockwood. Coalfield is the only team worth a darn in Morgan County.
7. Oakdale can beat people like Pickett County that just started their football program a couple years ago.
8. Greeneville
9. Sweetwater
10. Oneida
11 Loudon for my boy Mouthpiece. But can we call them the Redskins still?
12. Grace
13. I have no clue but I will pick Tellico Plains
14. Why even play this one? Fulton will score 30+ before it starts getting dark outside.
15. West Greene.

I went to school at Tri Cities Christian from 1st grade thru 6th.
It's hard to get across how mind boggling it is that they have football there now.

No, I got recruited to Maryville Middle for 7th grade.
You wouldn't understand that in single A....

1.Alcoa vs Maryville - Maryville in a close game. Alcoa's offense is really good, but I think Maryville's defense is just a little better. I saw Alcoa destroy a decent Morristown East team last Saturday night. Maryville beat Webb 28-7, but seriously dialed back in wait for this week. This being Alcoa's 3rd game in 9 days really shouldn't make any difference, given that the starters only played about the equivalent of 1 full game in those three days. That said, Maryville is still the better team and they are at home and their depth will play a big part in the outcome, as it usually does.
2.Knox.Central vs Jefferson County - this has the potential to be a very good football game. Both teams are improved. I like Central to win because they have a bit more speed and I have a feeling that a kick return or big play by Howard or Washington will be the difference. And I really do like Central's new coach, Bryson Rosser, by the way. He appears to be a really good fit for that job and he has put together a really good staff. The Bobcats could be the positive surprise team in 3AAA this year.
3.Coalfield vs Knox.Catholic - Catholic went to Chattanooga Notre Dame last week and struggled to hang on against a team they really should have beaten by 3 or 4 scores. Co-feel hung on against a team they should have blown out and gave up a ton of points. Both teams will be better this week, but the difference will be Catholic's offense. If Copper Basin can score 32 on Co-fell, then Catlik can score at least that many, and that will be plenty enough to win. There will be a lot of focus on the lines as UT 2015 verbal Zach Stewart will be going up against the Areish freshman manchild Cade Mays - son of former UT OL Kevin Mays - who already has an offer from UT and several other big time BCS league schools. It will be interesting to see if the more experienced Stewart schools Mays or if Mays' bloodlines and God given ability allows him to hold his own against Stewart.
4.Farragut vs Oak Ridge - Farragut had another close loss to Kingsport D-B last week, in what has become a recurring annual event. Oak Ridge was off in week 0, so this will be their season opener. Farragut is what they normally are - big up front, decent skill guys, and solid defensively. I saw Oak Ridge a couple of weeks back in a scrimmage. They are loaded with athletes at the WR and RB spots, but they don't seem to have a QB who can get them the ball and are not up to normal Oak Ridge standards up front on either side of the ball, again from what I observed. Farragut has been Oak Ridge's thorn in the side the last few years, but I have a feeling that that history will change. I like Oak Ridge at home. 5.Tri Cities Christian vs Jellico - 2 bad teams. In fact, 2 very bad teams. I like Jellico at home to be the less bad team and get the win.
6.Wartburg vs Rockwood - Rockwood had a great comeback win last week, coming from 13-0 down late to beat Oneida 14-13. Wartburg Central didn't play last week. Really doesn't matter. Rockwood wins this game fairly easily. 7.Pickett County vs Oakdale - 2 more bad teams. Last year Oakdale was 3-7, but Pickett County was 1-9 and Oakdale beat the Fences 32-6. Both teams won last week against even badder teams, and I don't mean bad in a good sense. Oakdale wins. No Gettysburg style Pickett's Charge in this one.
8.Morristown West vs Greeneville - I saw Morristown West destroy a woefully undermanned West Green Buffalo team last Saturday in Morristown. Don't know how to take that, and especially given that Mo'town West is coming off of a 3-7 season and their coach made overtures of leaving after that season, but family pressures kept him in Mo'town. Greeneville got hit hard by graduation, and struggled, albeit against some very good teams (D-B included) in pre-season scrimmages. This is Greeneville's first game of the year. That said, with all things being equal, and apologies to my friend and Powell graduate Edwin Spradlen, who is the DB ad S&C coach at Greeneville, I am going with Mo'town West in what would probably be considered a mild upset.
9.Sweetwater vs Meigs County - Again, two teams coming off of bad seasons. I like Sweetwater to win on the road.
10.Oneida vs Hampton - This should be a really good football game. Two teams that are quality smaller classification teams. Hampton won big over Clark Duncan's alma mater, Unicoi County, last week. Oneida had the heartbreaking loss to Rockwood. I like Tony Lambert's Oneida guys to bounce back and get in to the win column this week. Don't see them starting 0-2.
11.Loudon vs Lenoir City - Battle of the Bridge. A hate rivalry. The Loudon Redskins win. The PC crowd weeps.
12.Kingston vs Grace Christian - Kingston was winless last year. Grace lost a lot of good talent from last year to graduation, but they have more than enough talent to beat Roane County High School, AKA Kingston High School. Grace only scored 14 points in shutting out Austin-East last week, but they should have that or more by the end of the first quarter in this one.
13.Andrews (N.C.) vs Tellico Plains - Looking at Maxpreps, it appears that Andrews has struggled in recent years. Tellico Plains is a decent small school program in Tennessee. I like the Plainers playing at home. 14.Bearden vs Fulton - This one may not end up being 83-3, but it could if Robbie Black wanted it to be. Bearden is bad. Really bad. Powell shut Bearden out 21-0 in one quarter of jamboree action two weeks back. Fulton wins. By a lot.
15.Cosby vs West Greene - I saw West Greene last week against Mo'town West. They aren't very good. But Cosby was 1-9 last year and lost last week in the season opener to Pigeon Forge 71-0. If not for the Powell/Fulton game, Cosby giving up 71 would have been the talk of high school football in the state instead of the 83 the Panthers gave up. That said, West Greene wins this game big and gets off the snide.
And a side note - I talked to a media buddy who covered the Oakland/Blackman game on Sunday. He said that the talk among media at that game was the 83 that Fulton put on Powell, and why it happened. I found that interesting.
