Which 6'7" guy are you referring to? If memory serves, both 6'7" Howard Wood and 6'7" Dale Ellis played well against Sampson. Of course, I am old. My memory isn't what it used to be. And by the way, Sampson was 7'4" and about a buck fifty. He got out muscled a lot. Didn't Reggie Johnson play against Sampson? He was 6'9". As I recall, Tennessee was playing really well and early in the second half, the refs called about 3 straight fouls on Reggie which killed our chance.

No. The 1979-1980 season was Reggie's senior season at UT and Sampson's freshman year at UVA. UT beat Furman in the first round of the NCAAs that year, and then lost to Maryland in the second round. UT lost to UVA in the second round in both 1981 and 1982.

But we got revenge in 2007 when we AGAIN played them in the 2nd round and beat them to advance to the Sweet 16.

Really surprised by the results last night. I didn't think either team would top 60 points. UT needs to play at a faster pace if they want to win.

They play much better when McRae doesn't only look to shoot. Richardson was the Bob and Bert Player of the Game, but I think that McRae had a great game. He gave up the ball time after time when he was being double-teamed and a wide open teammate was a pass or two away. However many assists he had, double it because he drew the defense away from the rest and even if he didn't technically get credited with every assist, his unselfish play led to somebody getting one.
On the negative side, I wonder how long it will take for SEC coaches to figure out how to defend that three man weave motion offense that they ran the entire game last night. Right now it works much better than everybody standing around and watching McRae though.

Howard Wood and Dale Ellis did all they could, but when you give up 9" to the guy you are guarding it's an uphill battle. TN got a couple of moral victories against Ralph, but they were both loses that eliminated them from the NCAA tournament.

TN got a couple of moral victories against Ralph, but they were both loses that eliminated them from the NCAA tournament. I remember Al McGuire was working the NCAA game on TV when Wood and Sampson got pretty physical with each other. The play by play guy was saying something to the effect that Sampson was the more physical player, and McGuire blurted out "Wood would kill him", or something similar to that. That game got really chippy and the officials, of course, protected Ralphie and UVA.

Dale Brown had to protect his 7'3" center from another 6'7" UT guy several years after that. I wonder what ever happened to Carlus. Shaquille was hanging out at a local Walmart a couple years ago.

Shaquille has a "ho" in Alcoa that he visits regularly. He's been seen at a lot of places in Blunt County. Dale Brown was an asshat.

Bet he can't handle a boat like Albert Haynesworth doing his version of Al Czervik on Fort Loudon.

Ellis might have gotten in foul trouble in one of those Va games.
