On offrnse he's very smooth and under control. His defense needs work. State gets around him a lot requiring help... Leaving a man unguarded. I don't know, man. Maybe it's best to say he was uneven defensively. He did create turnovers by getting into passing lanes, esp. 1st half. He certainly outplayed Barton tonight.

18 point win against a team that couldn't beat Bearden and the sheep shit. That's not a bad team. They lack size and have nothing down low...

He missed a couple right at the hoop, but that's what freshman tend to do.
Really haven't seen how well he might be as a shooter. He looks to pass first and doesn't take a boat load of shots. In Bob's post game interview he talked about his father being a coach and that he's pretty much always been a point guard. Dude is listed as 6'5".
Can't really think of another ut pg to compare him to. His frame and how he handles the ball kind of reminds me of Alan Houston, minus the shooting range. I totally understand now why keeping Golden around for his Sr season may not have been a priority. If TN had a need at the 2 then Golden might have been useful, but the 5 or 6 guys that they can put at the 2 are all better options than Golden.
I thought that this season was totally dependent on Stokes, Maymon, and McRae carrying them. If they are role players instead of the three guys carrying the team 2013-14 might end up being decent. I really like the 3 freshman, even though Davis and Hubbs have a ways to go to be factors. Potential is there.

Cow-throe, they have gotten better each game. It's not nearly as brutal to watch as the first couple of games were. Still not top 25, but if they keep getting better it could be fun in March. They need to take care of business in the sec though. Maybe only getting uk once this year isn't such a bad thing.

I am more and more becoming a Thompson fan. We have two point guards this year and both are way better than Golden at that position. I thought Thompson's defense was pretty good most of the time. Some excellent ball movement and passing. Armani Moore had a better game tonight.
Barton is the man. Might end up being a purty darn good season.

I'm so pleased with this freshman group that I'd maybe even give Cuonzo a pass if this team does not win the one game in the NCAA tournament that seems to be his required minimum to get a 4th year. Even an an NIT final four might be enough for me if throwing CCM to the curb results in loosing Thompson and Hubbs (of course Hubbs is supposed to be a one and done, but I sure haven't seen anything that would make that happen).

Can't really think of another ut pg to compare him to. His frame and how he handles the ball kind of reminds me of Alan Houston, minus the shooting range. I think Thompson resembles Houston, too. I didn't get to watch the game until this morning. There are times when we show a lot of purpose. It would be good to see that become the norm. Something else...Cuonzo catches criticism for being stubborn, but it looks to me like he tries a lot of different stuff during the course of a game. Last night he mixed his defenses, plus used a lot of combinations of large and small lineups. I thought the Vols did a pretty good job of exploiting their advantages most of the time.

Trying a lot of different stuff during a game isn't impressive. I would try doing something actually effective and relevant to the talent on hand instead of being beholden to a philosophy that failed in the failed Big 10 thirty years ago. Which is guaranteed to fail today.
Of the failed Big 10 coaches tree, I'll take Dr Davis all day instead of the Combover Club.

On the subject of playing styles, did you see Bruce's quote from a coaching clinic he did with Shaka Smart the other day? He said that Gary Williams told him that the press would be successful at first, but as he recruited better players they wouldn't want to play it. Bruce said that is exactly what happened. Bruce also said he intends to go back to the press when he gets another job. Does that mean he's going to stop recruiting blue chips? Interesting.

Interesting angle, Thunder. The upside is definitely looking way better at this point than I had ever anticipated. One key criteria that comes to mind is how they get better (coaching/player development) as this season progresses. Based on what he's shown so far, no way Hubbs should be 1 and done. But hey, it's early and players mature at different rates - sometimes in spurts.
