I cant get over that either. And here I was whining about TE's.
WAYYYYY back when, USA Today had a Fantasy League that was advertised by a company called Sports Challenge out of Massachusetts. It was based on a stock market type of value system. Started the year with 10,000 and you could take anybody you wanted within your budget. Each week, values went up or down based on performance. So, over time, you could improve your team by trading out bargains for more Pro Bowler types. It was so superior to any other kind of Fantasy I have played its laughable. Simply because you didnt get hosed just because you didnt get to draft Adrian Peterson. You wanted him you could get him. The one weakness was that every player on your roster got a plus or minus 1 for a win or a loss.
So, I started playing this in '93 or so. You got 4 free trades per week and they used a live operator to process your trades. One night, I call in and the guy sounds very familiar. I asked, "You wouldnt be Dan Davis that calls Boston College football are you?" "Sure am, Son." Dan Davis would later go on to greater acclaim as The Duke for ESPN radio.
The next year, they went to an automated phone bank system. Almost right away,I think the second week, the system crashed and no trades were processed. They sent out a letter informing everyone that the week would be dropped from scoring. Predictably, people lost their minds and 3/4 of the league demanded refunds. Maybe two weeks later, they shut their doors and went out of business.
And so now I have to play this inferior brand of Fantasy.
If anybody reads all that, Lord help you.
